DISCLAIMER: THIS ARTICLE WAS ORIGINALLY UPLOADED ON JANUARY 2016. THIS IS A REUPLOAD OF THE SAME ARTICLE FROM THE PREVIOUS WEBSITE OF THIS WEBSITE. Anesthesia today is safer than ever. But try telling that to a nervous parent of a 5-year-old about to have surgery, or to a patient in his 70s in poor health. Talking to your surgeon and anesthesiologist before surgery is an important step in making sure your experience is as safe and comfortable as possible — regardless of your age.  But for children and older adults, that conversation is especially important. Dr. Daniel J. Cole, president of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, has tips for patients of all ages . “Most people don’t know that before their surgery they can and should talk with their anesthesiologist about their concerns and about their health and health habits,” Dr. Cole says.  “This is especially true for parents of young children who may be worried about how anesthesia could affect the child, and for older...

BHAGAVAD GITA “The Song of the Lord”

The Bhagavad Gita, occurs as an episode in the Mahabharata, and is regarded as one of the gems of Hindu literature. The poem is a dialogue between Prince Arjuna, the brother of King Yudhisthira, and Vishnu, the Supreme God, incarnated as Lord Krishna. The conversation takes place in a war-chariot, stationed between the armies of the Kauravas and Pandavas, who are about to engage in battle.

The sublime message of the Bhagavad Gita is timeless and is applicable in every facet of life. Within Srimad Bhagavad Gita are the answers to the mysteries of existence – our real purpose in this world, how we should act and why we suffer, or are often times helpless in our struggle for survival.

The active principle of understanding the message of the Gita is to hear directly from the Master of yoga, Lord Sri Krishna, who is glorified throughout the Vedic literature as the Supreme Person, the Absolute Truth. Lord Sri Krishna speaks to Arjuna in Srimad Bhagavad Gita and thus one who studies the Gita hears from Krishna directly.

Self-realization means to realize our actual purpose in life and act towards it, gradually freeing us from the yoke of material bondage. Where there is light, darkness cannot stand — where there is proper knowledge, ignorance cannot remain. Srimad Bhagavad Gita unravels the mysteries of life, providing not only knowledgeable answers, but also a progressive process to uplift us to pure consciousness.

Anyone who is fortunate enough to dive deeply into the wisdom of Srimad Bhagavad Gita and embrace its message will surely achieve success, for this is guaranteed in the Gita’s final verse:

“yatra yogeshvarah krishna yatra partho dhanur-dharah
tatra shrir vijayo bhutir dhruva nitir matir mama”

Where there is Sri Krishna, the Master of yoga, and where there is Arjuna, the mighty archer, there will always be prosperity, victory, opulence and righteousness – this is my firm conviction. (BG 18.78)
